The Exploitation Of Women In Music! (All About The Booty)an Article by angie Wize

BOOTY , BOOTY, BOOTY, BOOTY, ROCKIN' ALL AROUND! That's Part Of A Lyric From A Song Entitled Ms. New Booty by Bubba Sparx(Sparxxx) featuring the Ying Ying Twins.
Songs that focus on the sexuality and anatomy of women can have an empowering effect on women. Other songs make women feel a sense of being demeaned and exploited. What happens when an artist makes a "booty song", and doesn't clearly assert what their intention for writing the lyric was, even when asked? For example, Beyonce Knowles wrote a song called Bootylicious. I saw her in an interview on BET, and they asked her why she wrote Bootylicious. She said she was on a plane and it kinda just came to her, and so she scibbled it down. I wish I could've asked her how she feels about millions of men looking at her as nothing but a piece of booty, and yes I know any man that sees her that way was probably goin' to see her like that irregardless of a song>laugh out loud....>>>To read the rest of this article written by angie wize go here >http://www.wizerecords.com/Exploitation%20of%20Women%20In%20Music.htm but come back and post any comments here. Here goes the list of "Booty Songs" that are listed at the end of the article. If you can answer the question that is asked after the list appears , hit me up !
Here is a short list of some of the booty songs gone by...
My Humps, Black Eyed Peas (2005)
Shake Ya Tailfeather, Nelly( 2003)Bootylicious, Destiny’s Child (2001)
Shake Ya Ass,Mystikal (2000)

TROOBLQ!!!LOL. Do I remember you? LOLOL>AW Hell NAH!OLOL You callin' me crazy? Me Crazy??!! You must be crazy if you think I wouldn't remember you!Sonia~~!I have been so busy rebuilding, or I should say building a new site, that I haven't networked with anyone, no chatting, no real communication with the online music community yet.I'm just getting hip to blogging and myspace last spring>LOLOL...I've been focused on music. I was in a music making cave for all of 2004, and 2005, and wait till you hear how strong I've had to be,WHEW!!!
lol, it's like someone unzipped a panel in the universe and everything that I worked so hard to achieve sucked through a vaccuum out into space>LMAO!I had to hold on to the sides of the zipper with all my might to keep from being pulled out into that abyss myself>>I got the scars on my blood streaked hands to proove it>>>:o}.But I'm back now!
I spent all of my computer time on the computer that I have which is dedicated to audio,it doesn't even have a modem in it, because I wanted it to be safe from infection.I was coming online just for email, and research, until about 6 months ago. The online technology and vibe changed in the past couple of years, and I've had to bring myself up to speed.I have a few more things i got to do, before I can put the daily hours into the sort of networking it takes to establish a strong internet presence, but I need the contact info to all of the HHN rap battlers!. They info. is on a drive I got that goes back like 5 hard drives ago.That drive won't work in any of the machines I'm running now, and the only thing left from that old machine is a few spare parts that I just can't seem to let go of,lol, shut up, yes I'm still holding on to a variety of old computer parts...lol.But I'll have you know that the last 2 machines I got were custom built>I thought about how I would be using them, researched what parts would be the most optimal for my purposes, and then I ordered the parts and PAID a tech at COMPUSA to put them together! So HA!I've evolved>LOL. I didn't even clock them!>>LOL.Ok, I clocked the comp I record audio on, but that was it!!!
So technically,I'm no longer a computer geek>>LOL remember that?lol.Yes!I did go there! I can laugh now, but yo!I was PMS'N That Day, and you >>hurt my feelings>LOL >You really hurt my feelings that day PUNK!>>;o{ LMAO! Luckily for our friendship, I was able to upgrade my capacity to maintain system stability when I receive unexpected power surges>>LOLOLOL.Seriously TROO,I now see the beauty in what you were saying, it's just how it initially came across.
(Did someone say,ghetto?):o} I see the whole hybrid sista thing now, and, I've learned to be proud about it now>smile>I'm so proud that I just might make that an alternate screen name for myself>He,He,He,checkit>LOL
Hybrid_Sista@UrbanWorld.COM>LOL>naw
it should be Hybrid_Sista@FugitivesFreshFromThe Abyss.NET>No wait, should be dot ORG>:o}!Ok lemme quit.
Are the battlers still out there?
Looks Like you kept in touch with my surrogate son>Devyne?:o}Is he on commercial radio?!You got to email me that list! Wait a minute! Hold up>>NAW HOLD UP!!!>I'M GOING TO CHECK MY MAIL!WHO??!!!TROOBLQ!!!
What?! YOU MADE MY DAY!But I'm still gonna kick yo azz for callin' me a Heffa though!:o}

Hi Wize ,I liked your article,but in it you said,"There were thousands of male viewers tuned in. Why not ask her how she feels about men viewing women as nothing more than sex objects?"My question to you is how do you expect any woman in entertainment to answer that? Sex sells! It's easy for you to be self-righteous because you are a grassroots level independent artist.If you grow into a major,I bet you'll do whatever it takes to stay on top, and if you're not driven and willing to be bold and do what you got to do to stay on top, you will definately fall off!

Unknown said...

Hey Teresa B.!
LOL.It looks like I got myself a running blog now>smile> Thank you for your insights!! In regard to your question>"How do you expect any woman in entertainment to answer that? Sex sells!"Here are my thoughts on this...If women in entertainment, DON'T SELL THEMSELVES OUT!, DON'T DEGRADE THEMSELVES, OR ENDORSE THE VIEW THAT THEIR BODIES ARE A COMMODITY/ASSET, if they simply put >DON'T TRAMP OUT>especially after they're already racking in millions of dollars in sales without stooping to that level!, then they will be able to be themselves.Be able to be the women they are, as opposed to the mask they chose to wear, and truthfully answer that question, and why is it when a woman refuses to jump on the '"your just a piece of meat bandwagon"she's being self-righteous? Guess what Teresa?>If I was an artist back in the minstrel show days, I would've been one of the people not in the major leagues because of my refusal to put the black shoe polish on my face! There is a new minstrel show! The new minstrel show is Thuggin'! There are many many bruthas in the rap game who never thugged a day in their life, but like sex, crime sells>grime sells>the disenfranchisement of a people is of no consequence when that almighty dollar is at stake. Bruthas will put on the gear , and walk the walk, and talk the talk, and glamourize the very lifestyle which is making them the number one male in America who will most likely die by the age of 25! Black men who sell that image to the masses , and then sit on national T.V. and admit that they don't let their kids listen to that "kind of music" are commiting genocide. Snoop Dog's kids are going to college, and he don't sell that mentality he is glamorizing to his kids! It's the kids on the quote>unquote grassroots level, which are dying in these streets! Instead of black face they throwin' on the thug identity, and yes there are real thugs rapping, but for every one of them, there are hundreds of people who jump on the bandwagon, and when you do that>you're selling out! Women, and please hear my heart on this, Women>when you throw on that prostitute gear, when you conform to the popular consensus that black women are all money grubbin' "Ho's", when you "choose" to capitalize on, no wait! better yet, when you choose to exploit your own sexuality, you might as well go and grab yourself a tin of black shoe polish and smear that on your face!
My final thoughts on this Teresa B. ,which is like a footnote in my little mind is this...History has proven time and time again what happens in this world to old party girls*Think about the hard life that comes when your "asset" has aged. Look at how men treat those women.Now with that in mind, what happens to a singer who made her living off of glamorizing that whorish lifestyle? Yeah, I know the party girl is making millions now, while they're young,but "Ho's" play out, and when they do so does thier career. Even actresses who never even played a tramp will tell you that when you get near 40, the work dissappears. So if we as women who are not tramping out in the entertainment world are still coping with sexist issues, or I should say being victimized by that perception of our worth as being nothing more than sex objeccts, than not only is the decision to sell out one that is detrimental to yourself, but , also your career, and >Dare I say to all of the women who are struggling to overcome those anti-femininistic oppressive barriers!

Again I say>Beyonce singing a "Booty Song" what a waste!

Question wize? When does a woman become so "free" to be who she is, or as you put it "empowered", that she doesn't have to justify her choices to anyone? In what scenario can she, in your opinion, be "free" enough to be as sexual as "SHE" pleases?

Unknown said...

Hey jimi,
Answer:Women are "free" to do whatever they want, whenever they want.WhatI'm saying is>>To Whom Much is Given, Much Is Required, and You Reap What You Sow.

I like the way you think, but I totally disagree. The way you are looking at it is very unprofitable.
I think an artist should be concerned about profit. Get yourself in a position to reach masses first, then set the record strait on what you stand for. I think you have a few things going for you that would make it very easy for you to build and maintain a strong fan base. What good are those things,if you're not going to utilize them? That is the waste!
Don't get me wrong,your mindset is refreshing!I just don't think you are using enough business savvy. What are your thoughts on this ?

Anonymous said...

Well. What are your thoughts on this?

Unknown said...

still sorting my thoughts out.

:o}

Profit >Is not my bottom line Deep.
I want to make a living at it sure, but that doesn't mean I have to ever go double platinum. How much money does one need? My pockets may never be so deep that I can reach in and pull out a half a million dollars and donate it to charity>>lol>Although if I ever was in that position, I have the type of heart that would. You say get yourself in a position first>then set the record strait. By then it could be too late to get yourself out of the tight personification you are wedged in! Music listeners are very unpredictable. Many acts have perished because they didn't stay consistent at what they do. I believe when you find a niche, stick with it, expand a little, but stay consistent at giving the people what they want.I am concerned about profit, but it doesn't dictate my image. I will never be so profit driven, that I'm willing to make my husband, or my mother hold their heads in shame. I want them to say proudly, that's my wife! That's my daughter! I'm wise enough to know the respect of the people in my inner circle is more important than money, and more importantly my self- respect is even more important than that! Some things are just not for sale Deep, and I come from a family of successful
entrepreneurs, so I know better. I believe what I put into my company is what I'll get out. If I work hard, make smart>LONG TERM decisions, stay able to adjust my plans when the unexpected happens, stay consistent,and ethical the original vision I had for my company, and the purpose it was created will come to fruition. If it doesn't, and the reason is because I didn't tramp out, not only can I live with that, I can be proud to pass that spirit of integrity down to my grandchildren.

LOL TROOBLQ, You a mess.
As much as you on the internet>>I should give you the administrative passwords to the chat , and let you change the settings. You could follow the instructions and change the color on it. I got to take that blue off>>lol you could design it, and then drop in sometimes, sit there, watch the convo, and boot out/block the people who get too live. Hell my pockets aint deep, but I could pay you for doing that, and if you get a certain amount of people to come there and chat on the regular, I could give you some kind of bonus.LOLOL What I don't know.

Anonymous said...

Are you serious? You would pay me to be in charge of a chat room? LOL Sounds too good to be true...lolol

:o)

I think we've exhausted this topic.
I'll start another article this weekend, but until then>..hmmm. I'm tryna think of some Hip Hop news.......................................I KNOW!DMX>LOL. What do ya'll think? Are all these rash of arrestsm, incidents, and charrges just publicity stunts, or do ya think this brutha really on some real drama?? I mean come on who tucks a gun under the front seat in a convertible >with the top down??>LOL Is it coincidence, or is he just another brutha under the microscope/ being profiled by po po because he's a black man and is a rap star?>>> ;o}

Anonymous said...

I don't think he's getting in trouble for publicity. I think he's really goin' through some shit, and remember he was sitting outside of a club in Arizona. The police was scoping him, and they knew who he was. A black rapper from NY stands out like a fag in a jailhouse shower. They was watchin' his every move and you know it!

Anonymous said...

LOL->Fag in a jailhouse shower. I think it's publicity because it's too much drama in too short of a time span
